    Blepheroplasty Santa Barbara

Eyelid surgery  is also known as blepharoplasty.  It is a cosmetic procedure that can  provide a more youthful appearance to the eyes.   During the aging process, wrinkles, lines, and puffiness contribute to a tired or aged appearance.  Blepharoplasty can improve your appearance by reducing or repositioning excess fat, removing extra eyelid skin or even changing the eyelid position.  Dark circles under the eyes are often caused by shadowing under fat “bags” and this is also improved.  The blepharoplasty surgery is often performed in conjunction fat grafting and laser resurfacing which improves the contour and skin quality.

    •  Blepheroplasty alone can be done under local anesthesia or with sedation.  Often it is performed in conjunction with other facial surgeries    The procedure for the upper lids begins with incisions made in the natural contours  and creases of the eyes which should leave no visible scarring.  The surgeon will work on the upper eyelids to remove any fatty tissue and remove excess skin.  Lower eyelids can be approached from either the outside or the inner portion of the eyelid eliminating any visible scar. The fat is removed to eliminate puffiness and reduce dark circles.  Laser resurfacing is performed last to tighten the lower lids and remove fine lines.

The surgery itself takes about one to two hours. Patients rarely report any pain associated with surgery.  While complications are rare, patients can minimize the risk for potential problems by carefully following the post-operative directions given after the surgery.   Some swelling and bruising may last for a couple or weeks but the patient can be out sooner with some make-up or sunglasses.  The benefits are long-lasting  and patients will have a more rested and youthful appearance.
